Our Historical Background
Ruharo Mission Hospital is a Private-Not-For-Profit Faith-based Hospital of Church of Uganda under Ankole Diocese. The Hospital is located at Ruharo, 2 kilometers from Mbarara town on the Mbarara–Bushenyi–Fort Portal highway, in Kamukuzi division of Mbarara City. It is a 100-bed accredited Hospital by both the Uganda Protestants’ Medical Bureau (UPMB) and the Ministry of Health. The Hospital serves a population of over 1,200,000 people in Ankole Diocese and beyond.
Ankole Diocese of the Anglican Church of Uganda founded Ruharo Mission Hospital in 1981; cognizant of the fact that it started as a First Aid Centre operating from the Office of the Bishop. Afterward, the following were established:
General Medical Services in 1982, Eye Centre in 1984, Organized Useful Rehabilitation Services (OURS) in 1995, St. John’s Health Centre (Katojo – Biharwe) in 1996, Ibanda Mission Health Centre in 1998, St. Luke Kisyoro in 2005; Mugarutsya and Kanywamaizi.
